Canine Caviar vs Natures Logic

Hi. I am looking to switch my dogs from Merrick to either Canine Caviar (Meadow which is the Lamb) or Natures Logic Lamb. I am doing this due to the potato and legume issue as Merrick's first handful of ingredients are Deboned Beef, Pork Meal, Turkey Meal, Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes, Pea Protein, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Potato Protein.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried either the Canine Caviar or the Natures Logic. I am leaning towards the Canine Caviar but just wanted some opinions.

Thank you

Haven't tried either.

But wise choice to switch. Until they figure this mess out!

Either one doesn't look bad. But it will depend on how your dobe likes it.

Canine Caviar (Meadow which is the Lamb) looks good. No GMOs, no by products.

Natures Logic also looks good. Little higher protein, Less Carbs than Canine Caviar.

You can look them up on www.dogfoodadvisor.com

Canine Caviar, I like the name.

This whole potatoes and peas thing is creating such a mess. Let us know what you end up picking. Lots of kibble feeders are on the search again.

Nature's Logic was on my radar too since it has a nice variety of proteins to switch around. I like to switch the proteins up to provide a balance. It does have alfalfa concentrate in it, which alfalfa is also a legume, though we don't know if the problem is all legumes or not. I read somewhere that the company doesn't use the root part, which is where the legume is.

Another one I'm eyeballing is Nature's Instinct Ultimate Protein. Problem is they only have Duck and Chicken. The duck also has chicken in it so if anyone's dog was allergic to chicken, that wouldn't work. I may just have to find a couple different kibbles that work and switch it up brand wise to get my variety. Not necessarily a bad thing since it seems issues occur when we stick to one food for long term.

Ingredients: Duck, chicken, chicken eggs, tapioca, ground flaxseed, canola oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), natural flavor, dried tomato pomace, dried whey protein concentrate, dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, salt, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, niacin supplement, l-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate, thiamine mononitrate, d-calcium pantothenate, vitamin A supplement, riboflavin supplement, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B12 supplement, folic acid, vitamin D3 supplement, biotin), minerals (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, sodium selenite, ethylenediamine dihydriodide), montmorillonite clay, choline chloride, taurine, freeze dried duck (including freeze dried ground duck bone), pumpkinseeds, dried Bacillus coagulans fermentation product, rosemary extract

Thanks for starting this thread! Its been really tough to find a kibble that doesn't have legumes, potoatoes, dried beet pulp, wheat, corn, or soy in it...as I'm sure others are discovering too!

I sent Nature's Logic an email to find out what part of the alfalfa plant they use.

I switched from Merrick quite a few years ago because of those very same ingredients. Without even reading the label I could tell something changed when your dogs started flaking and getting a dull coat when they never used to.

I emailed them, this is the response I got. They first sent me 2 attachments which...did not tell me what part of the plant they use. Here are the links in case you care to read. I do like how little sugar there is in the diet.

Heres the only part about alfalfa that I could find in the provided texts.

So I asked again, lol. Hooray an answer!

Super stoked! I hope this info helps. I would email Canine Caviar too if you were interested in feeding that to find out what part of the alfalfa plant they use. I did more research and the legumes are the seeds the plant grows to reseed itself. These don't occur until later in the plant's life. Most alfalfa is cut when it is young to make hay. Its best to check!

Awesome job, @Rits!

And good on that guy with the totally fake name who kept the dialogue going until you got your answer.
LOL it is actually the owner/founder. I did think that the original answer was a bot reply based off of key words in my entry.

That's what I do. I didn't feel I had much choice. We've tried different things and a rotation diet along with different toppers is what works for us.

Good morning all and thank you so much for all your help. I finally decided on the Natures Logic. I really liked that none of their food contained the "bad" ingredients and it was a 5 star on dog food advisor. I did not go with the Canine Caviar because some of their formulas had ingredients in them I was looking to get away from. My logic is if they are in some of their foods they might end up in all of them eventually. With Natures Logic I can switch out the protein because all of the formulas are the same except the protein. I am really hoping my dogs do well on this food and will let you know once we are on it. This company has also not had any recalls on their food so that is also promising. I have one that can eat anything and one that is very sensitive so fingers crossed.
