Soon to be new Doberman Owner :)

Good day @Viemarangelrock
Yes we are now fully on Eden. I give her about 100 grams in the morning and about 50 grams in the evening. She literally gobbles it all up.

I find two things:
1) She is really hungry at each meal time. Hoping its enough. I will weigh her tomorrow. Currently weighs 10.2kg at 11 weeks
2) Her Poop is kinda soft and at times is very loose. Thinking its due to being richer.

She defo likes the taste.

Update on Bella:
Bella is settling in very well so far. We have a routine. She is very head strong, independent and strong willed.
she loves all the people we meet and adores little children.

Loves shoes, collecting twigs and little stones to put in her bed/hoard. ( A puppy thing?)

She climbed out of the pen 4 days after she was put in it :) Have a crate ordered.

She very quick to learn. Can sit, do a down, give paw, knows the word food and can sit and wait.
we make her wait for her food, and sit at each road when we walk.
She was scared of car noises but has kinda got used to them now.

had a few wee accidents in the house but 98% done outside now.

We have enrolled in a puppy class and go once a week.

So far I guess she is behaving like a puppy, picking up all items around the house. But so far, shes been very good.
(I hear they change very soon when they hit teenage years!!!!)

Currently researching best time to spayed. Want whats best for her and have to weigh up pros and cons. I defo dont want puppies or accidental ones!

Thank you all sooo much for your help and support. I feel like any issues you guys have my back :)

She’s precious! :)

Great to hear that she’s doing well on Eden. My previous boy ALWAYS looked for more, you’ve just got to restrain yourself. In Kobi’s case he was just a greedy sod. Lol

My girl eats her amount and seems satisfied.

Just keep an eye on her body weight and increase by 10% if you think it’s needed. Take in to account her growth and activity changes, it is not uncommon that they need adjustments to their diets.

Tara has 2 firm :poop: a day on Eden. It may be the high meat content with her? Possibly still adjusting. Is she on the original? Chicken, salmon, duck & egg?

As for spaying, it’s entirely your choice. I’m all for waiting. 18mo - 2 years. In actual fact 2 of my males were left intact for their entire lives.
I’ve heard a lot about a modified spay - having the uterus removed only and leaving the ovaries to continue to produce hormones. It might be worth looking into. Not sure how accessible it is in the UK?! I get the distinct impression that vets are trained in the routine of full neuter/spay and anything else sends shivers up their spines.

Weighed Bella today. 11.3kg at 13 weeks.

Is that weight ok/healthy for a puppy of that age?

Have increased her food as per Eden website to around 250g a day

Quick question on bloat.
Bella eats soo fast. I feed her 3 times a day at present.
I was reading a post on this chat about elevated bowls. I thought bowls for Dobermans needed to be raised.

Is this not the case?
Are the bowls I have ok?(see attached) I.e not too elevated but high enough to prevent stoop.

Also would u recommend I feed Bella in her crate and then leave her for one hour? Usally after she eats she goes out for a poo and then to play.

Thanks

I am not really for sure....

I do know to try and rest 1hour before and 1hour after feedings.

I will bump thread back to the top so one of the experts might see this. If no one responds, make a new thread with bloat in the title to catch some attention.

If you're feeding kibble, you could get a pacer ball to slow her down. It is usually a large stainless steel ball you put in their food bowl so they have to push it around. Also soak the kibble just a bit so it partially swells before going into the stomach.

If you want to feed elevated then their neck has to be straight which means your stand has to get taller as they do. If you're already reading about it you'll notice the opinion is pretty split which kinda surprised me too. My breeder preferred this style so I just did it, but there is merit to the argument that dogs in the wild eat at ground level - I will do this with the next Dobe and IN his crate. If you will ever board your dog they are usually fed crated to prevent food guarding.

Since Kaiser is used to the elevated style, I'm not willing to risk switching him at this point. Plus he often boards with the same breeder and she exclusively feeds elevated (and all the dogs are free!).

3 weeks update.

Bella is 14 wks and weighs 12.3kg.
She is quite well behaved for a puppy. Nothing so far destroyed but I guess we are always on the look out lol.

Things I have noticed , some seem to be Doberman traits.

Loves socks.
Loves tissues.
Keeps wanting to eat twigs and stones.
Easy to train but has no patience.
Will do anything for a treat. No treat won't even respond to her name.
One eye in morning has green gunk (think it sleep)
Is very itchy. It's hot in UK and think flies are biting.
Loves her Eden food. Always wants more.
Loves meeting dogs and children.
Before she sleeps she loves to chew my hand or whatever else is close.
Loves licking my head and trying to nibble my ear.
Has learnt to climb up and down stairs.
Wont poop or wee in park. Waits to do it in garden.
Has hiccups regulary.
I keep worrying about bloat and treat her so gentle when picking up and down.

:)

It is hard because they are constantly moving and extremely fast, but socks, tissues, rocks and sticks are scary bad!!!! Do everything you can to prevent this. Believe me I know....

At four months, I started smelling the bloody teething breath. Really rank and foul smelling. Started loosing teeth at this time also.

Never really had any issues of mine chewing on furniture or tearing stuff up, he just swallows everything.

Sounds like everything is going good for y’all.

It’s hot, huh? I think your temps are slightly higher than ours in the South West.

She still enjoying her Eden, that’s great!

Would love to see an update pic of Bella!

Thank you. Still enjoying Eden.
Poos not as firm as I would like. Maybe giving too much.

Pics as requested :)

Another idea to make her slow down and work for her food is a snuffle Mat. Brilliant invention! Here’s Tara showing you a demonstration....
Wow. I have never heard of such a thing! But what a cool invention! I can almost see this more for my little Kali, since she has such a good sniffer and is always rooting around for things, inside and outside the house.
