How much do you exercise your Doberman during the winter and really cold days?

I could not imagine doing this. My boy would scratch the floor and bark insanely
If I throw the ball in the house it is thrown directly into their mouth. Occasionally it will bounce off their mouth or teeth and hit me in the face or knock something off the end table.
Not to mention they cannot get traction on the tile floor.

I speak only for Grace and I....we don't care about sun, rain, sleet, etc... We go out everyday. I'm sick...we go out. She's sick...we go out. Exercise is that one thing we both need and as long as I'm upright, we're going out....When she burns off that energy, she becomes a great friend and remains calm in the house...WE like CALM in the house! LOL

I agree, my dogs are so ball crazy they only get balls during training. I am constantly trying to get my dogs to calm down in the house, bringing out a ball would be inviting mayhem inside.
K's toys are in a closet at the front of the house. He used to slip and slide to the back door to get to the yard, so now I pause before I open the closet door. He sits and then I make him heel walk to the back door.:sunglasses: Sit again before going outside.

Sure I can't make him heel walk while leashed :spit: but baby steps right

Did you mean unleashed?
Every step is a new step!
No I meant he pulls while ON leash. On another thread @Doberman Gang and I were talking about K's pulling on leash and I've been doing leash pressure training with him to get him to stop. Unleashed and motivated to get his ball, he suddenly does know what heeling is all about! he's such a funny little jerk sometimes

Gel reminded me of indoor exercise/stimulation.

Have your Dobe search for things by scent.

If you can teach your Dobe to stand on its hind legs and jump toward you, this is great exercise! Takes commitment to teach this.

I have Bogie doing this after you had suggested it. He does pretty good with it, maybe 4 hops before he goes back to all fours.

Mine have learned.
They don't go full afterburner in the house. They know they'll just spin and scratch.
All dogs that have lived here learned it.

It's all laninant down stairs except the entry from the garage/bath/laundry area.
The stairs are carpet, the entire upstairs is carpet.
There are some throw rugs on the laninant here and there.

He turns it on going up and down.
He also leaned to not go so fast going down;)

Remember, this is the dog that had no clue what stairs were when he came here.lol

I learned to use a Gentle-leader with a choke chain attached at a common point to walk my first Dobe and have continue with that with Grace. The Gentle-leader keeps her focused forward and if things get dicey with another dog or human I still have great control with the second collar. I tried E collars on walks but prefer the Gentle-leader.

Lol mine get more exercise in the winter then the summer. Summers here can get up to over 100 degrees, we just had a major heat wave last week, it got up to 111 in lake forest, @Gelcoater Im sure it was bad for you too.
This week we have been able to get out and work and train and exercise lol

Believe it or not, for once, it was hotter by you:D

My AC broke that week.
But, I fixed it for $20:thumbsup:

Same here. What is it with dogs not knowing stairs? Is it just something they have to learn when their legs are long enough? I was stumped when the dog just stood there looking at me. I turned to my hb and said, "so this is your guard dog?" :spit:

Omg. Am I going off topic again?

OK, I mentioned once before I'm crazy, so deal with me... ;-) One of Grace's favorite things to do is chase bubbles...I have every kind of bubble wand you can think of...plus bubble guns which blow out tons of bubbles...living in Concord Nc we have 90+ days all summer and when the temps get that high sometimes a long walk isn't in the cards for me, so I got the idea my girl might like bubbles...guess what I was right, she goes nuts chasing and popping them. It's a great supplement for the walk or if time is short a good workout without going to the Park...
