Looking for adult male rescue or re-home

Yes, I know it is. The reason I put in my app with them is because it states on their website that not having a fence is NOT a deal breaker. They should revise that then so people without fences don't waste their time. I can't live with the stipulations....but don't use that against me if the website says it's not an issue.

Opps....I meant I CAN live with the stipulations........sorry typos!

Just thought I'd let you guys know the response I got from the KC Dobe rescue.....

Debbie
I'm sorry we have no dogs that would do well in your circumstances. We really need a fenced yard and the chickens would be a problem .
for KCDR
Angus

So they have counted me out.....on paper. Ok. I can live with that. I am not even put on the waiting list. I wonder "where" they would like me to get my dog from?? Guess they have homes for all of the ones they have and that are coming in. I expected this but had to try :)

Back to the drawing board........

I am sorry to hear that. I really thought Blazer was a good fit for you.

I know we have a high kill shelter here and when a Doberman comes in (and they do) there is a group of volunteers that will try to move heaven and earth to find them a home, even out of state if the new owner is will to help with transport costs. Good luck with your search!

With Petfinder isn't is all rescues/shelters? I'm not sure they will adopt outside of their areas....but I will do another search. Thank you!

I adopted a doberman (My Riley) from a shelter 4 hours west of where I live, using pet finder. I think you will have success looking on this site.

Oh Wow, thank you! I didn't think shelters would let dogs be adopted from outside their areas. I will definitely be looking!

I must admit I get really annoyed when shelters and rescues are not flexible at all and just have a standard reply to any given situation.

No shelter will let you adopt a cat if it is going outside. I take better care of my barn cats than many people do of their indoor cats. Yes there is always the risk of something happening, but what about the people who don't take the animal to the vet when they are sick? They should look at every situation and applicant individually. If they did that they may be able to home more animals than they do.

How ridiculous is it to deny you of adopting a dog because you don't have a fence and have chickens!!!! Have they considered that you may walk the dog and activate it extensively. Spend time with it and not just stick it out in the back yard and never let it see anything else than the inside of your fence??? Seriously this really gets me going. If they had lots and lots of takers and not a lot of animals they could do this, but they are turning down really good people with their stupid rules. Look into the individual! Argh. Rant over.

Good luck. :)

Thank you Katja,

I appreciate your rant ;) I know of other dobe owners with chickens.....and many without fences. It's a personal preference for me. My dobe is out there somewhere.....and I know I'll have the one that is meant for me! It's just hard to wait. But I have also heard good things come to those who wait. So I will suffer dobeless a little bit longer. I get to attend as a guest on Monday to the Jayhawk Kennel Club here in Lawrence. I'll be excited to see what they are all about. I mentioned my daughter has a 12 year old clumber we raised as a pup. There's a guy in this club that has 3 clumbers! I think they are the only ones in Lawrence. It will be fun to meet him. No clumber for me......but since my daughter lives on the East Coast I can get my fix of clumber fur and be done with it :D

Katja where did you get your dogs from? Were they puppies?

maybe the reason it sometimes isn't a deal breaker is dependent on the dog. Rescues seem to know their dogs that have been there a few months pretty well. I would ask them if they know of maybe another dog that would fit your family. If that doesn't work. I know of a black and tan that I turned over to be trained in drug detection. If he fails out and you are interested in him he is in Cleveland. He will be fully obedience trained on and off leash, but I know the guy will want more than a rescue for him with all of his training. Let me know if you are interested in him and I can get you all of the contact information.

Thank you. I would like more information. Please PM me anytime. I can understand different dogs being the issue, but they are getting more dogs in shortly and I wasn't even put on a waiting list? I was just flat out denied on paper. I would not have even applied if they had said a fence is a requirement. But that's OK. I don't give up that easily ;) And I'm not going to lie to them either. My guy is out there. I can feel it!

PS I love the picture of Rusty on facebook! I love standards....they are such big lovebugs!

I just wanted to add, that honesty isn't a given in this day and age and I respect the fact that you are being totally upfront about your situation concerning the fence.
I wish you all the best in your search. I look forward to lots of pics once you find each other.

I have seen the Clumbers in the dog park. :)

We got ours from a breeder in England when we lived there. :D

I inquired with a Dobe rescue in Florida what their policy is and she said they don't home dogs to a place without a fence either. I'll put a little thing on Facebook to see if anyone knows of a Dobie needing a home. :) Maybe some local friends know of something.

Katja, that's right, my oldest daughter that lives in Lawrence said she sees them at the dog park too. That's how she met them. My daughter has a mimi long-haired doxie. Have you had good experiences at the dog park? I have not been with my dogs since we live in the country it's like a park around out house!

Are Easter and Bailey siblings then? Did you have to jump through hoops to get them here?

Thank you for putting out an inquiry. You never know......

If you want to come to AZ, www.azdoberescue.org :)

I would consider AZ however I do not qualify due to this restriction according to their website:

"Your yard is completely fenced, your fence is at least 5′ and preferably 6′ high and in good repair, and your outside gates are always securely locked"

Thank you for the info though. It's a nice website!

Thanks, the website was done by myself and one other volunteer :) We really appreciate it!!

Yes we love going to the dog park. However we don't hang out by the parking lot like a lot of other people. We take the dogs for walks around the fields and it's a really nice place. We also live in the country but we still go to the park regularly.

Yes my girls are litter mates. It was not hard to bring them with us to the US. It's nothing compared to what you have to do to get into the UK.
