Bring a pee sample to your vet. They will be able to check to see if the dog has a high "crystal" level, which can lead to a UTI or if the dog already has a UTI.
Carrots and apples are fine to feed. Make sure you get out all seeds from the apples. A few others:

JC used to flip out in thunderstorms. He would drool, shake, pant and pace. I re-directed that behavior onto a toy. Now, when it storms, he barks once at a window, grabs a toy and starts to play. It takes a little patience and time but it worked for me!
