What is the dog eating now? Is there any reason why you want to make a switch?

I just want the best possible honestly. I didn't know if there was something better. I've been using the blue buffalo.

The best food for your puppy is whichever food gives him the right nutrition, at the right age, and that he enjoys and does not cause any digestion problems. You can't really place any one food as the absolute best because all dogs are different and they are all going to have different tastes and needs. I can tell you that I think Wellness has the best puppy food and you could try to give it to your puppy and he could not like the taste, there could be something in it which bothers his tummy, or you could not like the price, or ingredients or anything else.

The best food for your puppy is whatever serves his needs the best, pleases his tastes, and is comparable to your budget.

Do you have a list of exactly what's available in your area? That also helps narrow it down. :)

How is he doing on the Blue Buffalo? Are his stools firm? Is his coat glossy? Is he maintaining his weight well?

I fed our dogs the Merrick food when they were pups (well still do as an adult) and they did very well on it, but as stated it will vary from dog to dog.

The blue buffalo does give her a shinny coat. However, her stools aren't always firm. Once in a while we experience a one time diarrhea deal. I know their digestive systems aren't the best so I figured i'd try a new food to see if that would solve the problem.

Oops sorry, she... It isn't totally uncommon for a younger dog or pup to have loose stools and sometimes a different food can help, but in other cases it can intensify it. Sometimes it a matter of experimenting with a few different ones to see what works best for your dog, but it's time consuming when you have to gradually switch them over, so it takes a while to know for sure what will and won't work.

What you're feeding is a decent food BTW. Which formula are you feeding?

We are feeding her the regular puppy formula.. I was thinking about switching over the the wilderness formula to see if that is any better. I know they make breed specific dog food for dobermans, but i wasn't sure if any of them were any good. I know she is a puppy probably is finding little things to eat which probably doesn't help much. It's hard to determine if it is actually the food.

If it is just occasional and not regular then it could be just one of those puppy things. If it is more regular but all the other factors are good I would suggest switching to a different protein type within the same food brand before trying a different food altogether.

I agree with Nupe raw is best, but i use half kibble & half raw cause the hard kibble helps clean the teeth.Ive feed Diablo 1/2 & 1/2 like this his whole life ( almost 5 months lol ) but he does weigh 56 lbs right now, and not fat hes still growing. Hope this helps.;)

There can be many reasons for a puppy/dog having loose stool and it is far from always due to the food. However most people blame it on the food. Your puppy could have eaten something on a walk, parasites or lots of other reasons. I don't think it is a good idea to start switching foods unless it is a persistent issue and you know it is not due to parasite etc. Switching foods can cause loose stool as well. If you switch make sure to do it gradually over at least a week.

Like the mention alread what works for one, dosen't mucst work for another dog. If the dog has mostly firm poop and the coat looks good and the weight is ok, i wouldn't switch. why fix something, what isn't broke.
Puppys nt always have firm poops in the first place. I saw that it almost take to 6-7 month, til they get normaly firm poops and then still, if they get into something or eat what they shouldn't, there are the runs again.
    Every dog is different.
I feed mine the PP shreeded brand chicken and rice and it worksfor all 3 of my dogs and i'm happy with it and they get once in a week one or two raw frozen bones, to keep the teeth clean and it keeps them busy for a bit :)
And i agree with Katja, if the puppy as not permanently runny poops and has no healthissues, don't switch, but if you do, do it very slowly.
