I was told by a lady today that in order to have a "Brown" Doberman the dog has to have a black nose otherwise it's a Red Doberman. And by Gosh she knows what she's talking about so she said. Has anyone ever heard of this???

Ummm that's kinda what I thought, oh and she said I have a rare Red Doberman cause his nose matches his coat color. Okay if you say so... Some people that think they know everything I had a hard time not laughing then I got mad and wanted to argue but thought it wasn't worth my time...

No, flat out no! Red Dobermans & Brown Dobermans are one in the same. Black Dobermans have a black nose!

Well the land is beautiful and ready for a resort. All you have to do is go enjoy the scenery - Just watch out for the alligators!!!! They have been known to take tiny bites out of misquotes.

You should hear some of the fish tales we hear too, and it's usually the kids working at some chain who are self proclaimed "everything aquatic" experts. I've almost burst out laughing, but the customer takes them seriously and even if we tried to say something they'd look at us like "mind your own business" and let us give the fish a sure death sentence... :bat:

She lives out of state but she said she's had a doberman before and her vet told her that. It would of been a waste of time to argue with her so I just let her talk and the funny thing was it was a call about Mary Kay but then Rosco had to bark and she went on about the dobe she'd had and all she knew which she thought was everything there was to know. I started to argue then realized she was one of them that knows everything about dobes and knows nothing...

Seriously - we do have a standard and it explains the correct coloring of everything on the dogs Eyes, nose, markings - Just go to the DPCA web site and pull up the standard. http://dpca.org/breed/breed_standard.htm

See above for those who would like to read it.

What is more scary is her vet told her. I am not impressed with the vet either.

I wonder if the vet really told her that or if she misunderstood or flat out made it up to try to make her sound more legit.

These are the people that I just love to mess with - you know, go all puffed up and say THANK YOU and of course you know what else makes him so rare and Valuable???

He is a WARLOCK DOBE!!! Yes he most certainly is...his pedigree on his sire's side goes all the way back to the first WARLOCK and then his MOTHER is one of those rarest of rare colors... the Lavender dobe! at this point they will say there is no such thing as Lavender dobe.

With a very straight face you look them in right in the eye and say OH YES there is - thats what you get when you breed the rare blues to the reds - EVERYONE knows you get puple or lavendar when you mix blue and red!!! -

Then go mix yourslelf a drink and laugh all afternoon!

I will just ask for forgiveness upfront so I can post with a clear conscious.

Vets are the worse judge of conformation or knowledge about any specific breed you could talk to. Folks - unless thet SHOW they do not have a clue on any standard. They studied MEDICINE, surgery and diseases common to dogs in General - Through the yeers they can develop enough of an eye to say one dog looks better than another but they would be hard pressed to know why specifically.

Vet techs are even worse - through the years I have concluded I would never recommend anyone getting a dog from a vet tech self prooclaimed breeder - They know even less than vets and the sad thing is - rather than study the standard and do some showing to learn they base all their great knowledge on less then 1/4 what the vet knows. They are the wrose to thing they know it all.

JMHO and I am sticking to it.

You know D4E thats what ticks me off about you - I can never figure out what you are thinking and how you feel about a subect :lmao:

On this subject I have to agree with you - I wish I had a dollar for every vet and vet tech I've had to edu-ma-kate over the years. everyone would be so much better off if they considered for just one tiny second that maybe they could learn something new if they stopped and listened.

Usually the vet techs - though very good at their jobs, and are a blessing to most vet practices - know just enough to be dangerous when it comes to breeding. And don't get me started on the vets who are now routinely scheduling c-sections so that neither their golf game, nor their clients barbque will be inconvenienced *grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*
